Hello, I'm Nelson Baroi, currently serving as the Director of the Bangladesh Branch at AMT Engineering JSC. My work is part of something larger than any single role — the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Bangladesh's first nuclear energy project and one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the country's history. The plant houses two Russian-designed VVER-1200 reactors with a combined capacity of 2,400 megawatts. The project, valued at $12.65 billion, was built in partnership with Russia's Rosatom and positions Bangladesh as the world's 33rd nuclear power-producing nation.
My journey has been shaped by a commitment to learning, adapting, and making meaningful contributions to both my workplace and community. I began at AMT Engineering in January 2019 as a Senior Administrator, managing internal operations, reporting, and coordination across departments. In February 2024, I was appointed to my current role — responsible for strategic planning, resource allocation, performance evaluation, and cross-departmental decision-making. Through hard work, perseverance, and a focus on collaboration, I strive to create value in everything I do.
I was born and raised in Bangladesh, a country rich in culture and resilience. Growing up in Chandraghona, in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, I was fortunate to have a supportive family that instilled in me the values of integrity, hard work, and empathy. These values have guided me throughout my life and career.
My academic journey took me to Notre Dame College, Dhaka — one of the country's most respected institutions — where I completed my Higher Secondary Certificate. These early achievements fueled my curiosity about how businesses operate and thrive. However, I knew that to truly grow, I needed to step out of my comfort zone.
In pursuit of this goal, I moved to Russia on a Government Scholarship to study at Kalmyk State University, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Informatics. Studying abroad as the only foreign student in my class was both challenging and rewarding. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of cultural sensitivity — skills that have proven invaluable in my professional life managing Russian-Bangladeshi teams.
My thesis, "The Use of Computer Technology for Intensification of Business Processes in the Field of Forecasting," first made me understand how data, properly handled, becomes a strategic instrument rather than just a record. That understanding has only deepened through six years of increasingly senior operational work. The decisions I now make — on staffing, budget allocation, operational performance — require structured analytical frameworks that go beyond intuition alone.
Fluent in Bengali, English, and Russian, I've been able to communicate effectively across diverse teams and environments. That combination isn't accidental — it's what allows me to bridge the gap between Russian management and Bangladeshi operations on a daily basis.
After completing my studies, I returned to Bangladesh with a desire to apply what I had learned to real-world challenges. In January 2019, I joined AMT Engineering JSC as a Senior Administrator, supporting the day-to-day operations of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. At its peak, over 20,000 people worked on this site — more than 4,500 Russian nationals live and work here, transforming what was once a quiet village on the banks of the Padma into a bustling international township that locals call "Little Russia."
As a Senior Administrator, I managed a wide range of responsibilities, from overseeing procurement and logistics to preparing financial reports, managing payroll, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. I built foundational systems that the branch still runs on today.
In February 2024, I was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Bangladesh branch as its Director. As Director, I oversee budgets, contracts, employee welfare, and safety standards, ensuring that all operations align with organizational objectives. Atom Tech Alliance — the group AMT Engineering JSC belongs to — supplies auxiliary equipment and engineering services for nuclear power plants worldwide, including the El Dabaa NPP in Egypt.
Simultaneously, I've had the opportunity to contribute to FREYSSINET, another key player in the Rooppur project, as both a Procurement Manager and Administrative Staff. These roles have honed my ability to navigate complex challenges while maintaining a positive and productive work environment.
Beyond my professional life, I'm deeply committed to giving back to my community. Volunteering and participating in student organizations during my university years taught me the value of service and empathy. Today, I continue to support initiatives that uplift others — whether it's mentoring young professionals, advocating for workplace safety, or participating in community projects.
I'm also investing in my own growth. I'm currently deepening my skills in SQL, Python, and data analysis — not to change careers, but to sharpen the instrument I already use every day. I can read a report and draw a conclusion. What drives me is the ambition to build the model behind the report, stress-test its assumptions, and communicate its limitations clearly.
